DANCE @ art6- Tuesday, May 4th

photo: Megan Harrold and Charlie Rauh

DANCE @ art6 is a showing of dance pieces by VCU students, alumni, and their collaborators. The concept for this show is simple and direct. We are dancing. We want you to see us dance. The show is on May 4th. Please come. The doors open at 8:15. The show will start at 8:30. Five dollar suggested donation. Here is a bit about what you will see:

In "Declension" Melodie Fais wears a mustache.

Through the serendipitous encounter, Between Floors, Corrine Bates investigates one of humanity's immense fears: getting stuck in an elevator. Through her percussive and gestural movement, five strangers are forced to endure emotions they never dreamed of experiencing. Lasting relationships are molded; sometimes the most unexpected situations yield the most remarkable outcomes.

Felix Cruz explores movement through an improvisation set to some funky tunes.

In "A Perfect Mess" Jasmine Domfort and Corrine Bates play with the emotions that come along with a relationship. Love, hate, jealousy and forgiveness are mishchiefly woven into this competitive partnership. Inspiration is taken from styles of the past to create a modern world where anything goes.

Burr Johnson will show you what happens when things change. As one thing diminishes, another presents itself. The creation of objects is the destruction of negative space. This Space Swallows Everything.

In Sleeping With Elephants, Charli Brissey blatantly explores her strange and innate mania for elephants, intrigued with the giant creature's ability to move with endless grace among loved ones and never forget. Sleeping portrays one night in the home of a hopelessly dreamy elephant love affair.

Niall Jones will show
"frozen october (glory)"
ambiguous love keeps us tight but our connection is
sorely missed.
an ode to the matriarch never forgotten.
with love.

Megan Harrold and Charlie Rauh (guitar) will be showing their collaboration of choreography and musical composition. The process to this collaboration creates music and dance that matches in content without one controlling the other. In "Still Life in Nash" performer Megan Harrold uses paper as clothing and communication to relive and let go memories in an effort to regain the future.
