In 1492, Columbus sailed the link-y blue Monday
Really? The RTD commented on October's First Friday situation.
Richmond Greens commented on RTDs comment and Fan District Hub also had something to say about the debacle.
Why isn't Richmond on this list (page 3)?

RVA's first Talk 20 at 1708

Artist Tiffany Glass Ferreira of Real Small Art League put together information for RVAAB from the Talk 20 presentation last night at 1708. Apparently, speakers' talks were really filled with information, and Tiffany was kind enough to provide a list of links for those of us who missed out:

Responses to Police Presence at October First Friday
When the mayor attended September's First Friday (you can check him out here in RVATV's video "Last Friday" or read about it here), it seemed a show of good faith on the city's part- an acknowledgment of the exciting things happening in that area of an otherwise questionable part of Richmond.
What does it mean one month later when there is a palpable police presence, First Friday attendees have to wait in line to enter venues due to occupancy limits being strictly enforced, and the police make a show of shutting down a beloved First Friday tradition (Gallery 5's fire performers)?
First Fridays is currently seeking signatures for petitions to create a Downtown Arts District- you can find out where to sign one of those here.
What else can we do to let the city know that their concern for "safety" is not helping the growth of culture in an area of the city that desperately needs it?
Gallery 5 added a comment to their original post here.
Style wrote about the crackdown here and here.
The Hat had some questions about last Friday's events here.
The Richmond Times Dispatch also reports here.

October First Friday Tonight and ADA Gallery
Go out and see some art tonight! Get info on what to see at First Friday's new website here.
We're always excited to see what's on tap at ADA, so we did some digging to find out about the gallery's October artists.
Here's Don Porcella's website. Looks like he does some pretty awesome stuff with pipe cleaners.

We Want To See... "Melissa PACA" at Metro Space and "The Peep Show" at Gallery 5

We dug out this old showcard of Mel's work that we had from cerca 2001 or 2002 (?). It will be nice to check out what she's been up to- be sure to check out this show at Metro Space Gallery tomorrow during First Friday.

Also not to be missed: Gallery 5's "The Peep Show," kicking off a busy month for the gallery which will culminate in the Carnival of 5 Fires, with ongoing events from October 30th through Nov. 1st.
We're especially excited about "The Peep Show," because it will feature work by gallery owner/artist Amanda Robinson AND work from a local favorite of ours, painter Amanda Blackmon.
Here's a list of more shows/openings from Style.
